Phuket on its day has some can match with some of the more well known fishing spots around the world. The Racha Islands roughly 15 miles from Phuket offers some great fishing for sailfish normally during the afternoon and on the right tides good fun can be had casting poppers to shoals of Giant Trevally. Further afield the Similan Islands 60 miles North of Phuket offers the angler the chance to fish live on board the boat for a multi day charter. During Oct-march the seamount Ton Mai west of the islands gives you the best shot at catching a Black Marlin and often big catches of Wahoo. For those looking for a little more adventure the Andaman Islands (India) 400 miles west of Phuket is the place for you. Totally un spoilt never commercially fished and still wild this place holds a wealth of great fishing, extra large marlin, yellow fin tuna, big dogtooth tuna and sharks by the hundreds.
