The Fishing
Striped Bass-These fish are aggressive and fun to catch, very abundant in the waters off the Massachusetts coast. With a legal minimum size of 28’ we have taken in specimens up to 45 lbs. aboard the Obsessed. Limit two ’keeper’ fish per day per angler. Their season runs from mid-may through October. Methods used are: trolling, livelining or chunk Mackerel, Herring, and eels. Also caught with seaworms, plugs, spinners, and other lures.
Our State record fish is 73 lbs.We usually use live bait,(mackerel) in june on into July (depending on the arrival of bluefish), Then head out to deeper water to chunk for larger bass.August finds us trolling or casting for a combo of bass and maruding bluefish( there is nothing more exciting than watching a Blue smash your surface plug.
Bluefish- With sharp teeth and a fight to the finish, blues are a favorite species from mid-summer through October. The only limitations are a 10-fish/day possession. A steel leader and medium tackle are recommended for bigger fish.
Methods include: trolling, chumming, casting lures. blues hit on just about anything. Our State record fish is 27lbs./4oz. Blues usually come in late in the summer and travel in schools. Their teeth are so sharp that anglers often use gloves when handling them.
