About Madeira Madeira is a part of Portugal located in the Atlantic Ocean at 32†North Latitude and about 250 miles west of Casablanca, Morocco. The island is the tip of a gigantic mountain sticking up out of the ocean floor. Needless to say the island is mountainous. Due to the steepness of the mountain itself the ocean reaches a depth of 2000 metres (6500 feet) a very short distance from the shore. The fishing lines can be put out as the boat is leaving port

The Madeira weather during summer is very mild. The climate is very temperate. Temperatures range from a minimum in January of 13 C (55F) to 26 - 27 C (79F) in July, August and September.
For fishing I recommend a light jacket, shorts and/or slacks, as it can get a little cool particularly in the evening. Ashore the same gear is generally in order as long as you look decent. A jacket and shirt with tie should also be packed. For the ladies some more dress up clothing might be in order.
Madeira has a typical Mediteranean climate* with winter rain in December, January and February. Bring a raincoat at this time. This great climate is why the grapes do so well and the wine is so good! Polaroid sunglasses or clipons are a must. With them you may see a Marlin behind the lures as well as the crew (that will take a while!).*If you happen to be familiar with the Med, Madeira’s weather is better but the cafe life, not so stimulating. Dress a la St. Tropez and be the center of att
