The Fishing
Gianluca grew up in Florence, starting fishing in the Arno river as a small boy with his father. With his friends, some of them Fly Fishing Italy guides now, he discovered fly fishing at the age of 20, and his determined commitment to the Brown Trout earned him the nickname of “Brown”. Enjoying fly fishing also includes taking care of the local rivers and streams, and helping out in the spawning season.
New members, from the Italian National Fly Fishing Team, have recently joined our staff.
This expansion coincides with Italy’s growing awareness and responsibility towards its streams installing a “Catch and Release” system. Today more than ever the well known regions of Tuscany and Umbria can provide very good fishing in their “Fly Fishing Only” waters.
Nicco (the name by which he is better known) counts with 16 years of guiding experience. In the USA he guided in Montana for 4 years. In Argentina, he started guiding 12 years ago and continues to do so, while in Italy he his entering his 7th season. He owns Fly Fishing Top in Florence and has fly-fished since the age of 8.
Alessandro Sgrani was born in Florence on July 9, 1971. He practices fly fishing since 1988 and became a fly fishing professional in 1991, achieving his highest professional level in the year 2000 when he was called-up to the Italian National Fly Fishing Team. He obtained the Gold Medal for individual results at the 2002 European Championship held in Belgium, and the fourth place in Portugal, in 2006. Currently, he is a team member of Nazionale Italiana.
