Predominantly baits are used during the Cairns Giant Black Marlin season and the black marlin are tagged &released or caught on board Iona and Iona II using our elite custom built Ian Miller 130lb rods and Tiagra reels. All our rods &reels &tackle on board Iona &Iona II are or world class standard. Along with the illusive 1000lb black marlin there are many opportunities to catch black marlin around the 800lb+ mark. There are many other species available.
World Renowned Marlin Fishing Destination. December to April. In December after the Cairns Giant Black Marlin Season the Iona &Iona II head south along the East Coast of Australia following the migrating marlin back to our home port of Newcastle. From December to April both boats are available for day charters from Port Stephens and Newcastle. Port Stephens is located 220kms north of Sydney, about 3 hours drive along the Freeway or a 30 minute flight from Sydney.
April to August. After the Port Stephens/Newcastle Season at the end of April the Iona &Iona II head north following the migrating blue marlin to the waters off the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is no doubt Australia’s No 1 tourist destination with miles of beautiful surf beaches, lush green rainforest, world-class golfing greens and world-famous theme parks and not to forget the bluewater fishing! The fishing grounds off the Gold Coast consistently produce world class fishing.
