South Island Fly Fishing The South Island fishery is considered by many to be at the very pinnacle of freshwater brown trout fishing on the planet. Brown trout are not the only species down south but the South Island is certainly more well known for its large, extremely wily brownies than its rainbows, salmon or kawhai. However all these make for a fly fishing destination par none. We specialize in sight fly fishing to target all species.
Simon Wililinson - Fly Fishing Guide I grew up in the North Island of New Zealand on the banks of a famous Hawkes Bay river, the Ngaruroro River. I spent a great deal of time fishing and exploring the Hawkes Bay, Taupo and Central North Island. I worked in The Central Plateau for 10yrs before moving down to base in the myself in Queenstown, New Zealand in 1995. The Fishing
Queenstown Day Expeditions 4WD Fly Fishing – I will pick you up from your Queenstown accommodation at a pre-arranged time. From here we will drive for between 1 to 2 hrs to take you to the waterways that will suit you and the weather/river conditions on the day. You will spend the day casting to stalked and sighted fish ranging in size from 3lbs – 5lbs, (20+ inches) always with the possibility of seeing and hooking into much larger fish. Heli Fishing Expeditions. Heli-Access – We have many rivers that are only easily accessible by helicopter from Queenstown or Wanaka so if you prefer we can organize heli fly fishing expeditions to get into remote back country areas. If you really want to unlock some of the very best fishing in New Zealand, day outings by helicopter can be arranged by talking to your guide - multi day options are also available with either camp out or hut accommodation.
Fly Fishing – Southland Homestay. The Southland Homestay is a great trip allowing you to get right into the heart of some of the best sight fly fishing in the South Island and can be fitted easily into your vacation in the South Island. The minimum duration homestay expedition is three nights, 4 days guiding however I regularly cater expeditions for my return clientele up to a 10 days in duration based from our Southland homestay. We can access Fiordland easily from the Southland Homestay.
The Multi Day Safari is for serious fly fishermen who require a super flexible and very mobile, exploration style multi-day expedition through areas of the South Island of New Zealand that few people get to see. It is generally suited to the angler who does not mind doing some hard yards, getting the hands dirty and helping out a bit with the chores of being on Safari – the locations we visit are amazing and the fishing will pay huge dividends.
