In June 2009 Juul Steyn of Fishing Amsterdam trvelled to Kazakhstan to catch large catfish. He had no idea what he caught would be 263cm and the largest catfish ever by anyone from the Netherlands

The Boat Fishing Amsterdam uses the Monark Scorpion 1601 SC, made in the USA. Fishing Amsterdam Guiding Service chooses a 16 foot long and 7 foot wide Monark Scorpion to ensure you enjoy your fishing trip as much as possible. This boat is powered by a 50 HP Yamaha four stroke engine and brings up to three fishermen quick and comfortable to the best fishing spots. Furthermore, the boat is utilized by a front and back Minn Kota engine.
The Fishing
The Fish. ZANDER (Sander lucioperca). The North Sea Channel, ’t IJ and surrounding waters are home to one of the finest zander fisheries in the world. This fish looks quite similar to his cousin walley, but is bigger, stronger and more agressive... and grows up to a respectable 40 inches! Tens of thousands of beautiful zander swim this giant canal, just waiting to gulp your bait in the depths of these great fishing waters! PERCH (Perca fluviatilis). One of the most beautiful fishes out there, with vertical bars and a large mouth that’s always ready to attack whatever is in it’s way. Just like the zander the perch can be caught all year round, especially close to the shore. Perch can be caught spinning, trolling and by vertical jigging. NORTHERN PIKE (Esox lucius). The biggest predator, master of the Dutch waters, willing to take big bait and ready to give a good fight. That’s the Northern pike!
Pike can grow up to a stunning size over 50 inches and 30 lb. The pike is not as abundant as zander and perch, but it’s size makes up for the lower numbers. This great predator can be caught with large soft baits, lures and dead bait. FISHING EQUIPMENT. There is no need to bring your own fishing gear (but if you want to, that’s no problem of course). We use only rod &reels from the toprange of Spro Sports Professionals.
The rods are lightweight, but have more than enough power to secure even the biggest zander and pike. For vertical jigging we provide the Henk Simonsz Godfather Parabolic rods and the Black Arc spinning reel, spooled with first class braided line. For casting and trolling there’s the Henk Simonsz Signature Troller, a slighly longer rod with a smooth and progressive action. These rods are rigged up with the top of the range Red Arc casting reels.
