About Us Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, Kyle Buck, 31, is a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain who grew up fishing in the West Michigan area. From the big lake, the rivers, and local inland lakes, you’d be hard pressed to find someone with as much know-how and savvy when it comes to freshwater fishing. Allen. Lake Michigan Fishing Charters. May - September. Spend a day fishing on beautiful Lake Michigan with a full time fishing guide out of the port of Muskegon. This is one of the best ports on Lake Michigan for salmon, steelhead, and trout.<br>The technique used is the Captain and first mate sets out 10 - 14 rods and we troll to cover water. August. River Salmon- There are salmon in Manistee, Pere Marquette and White Rivers (and I am sure a FEW in the Muskegon). We started our salmon casting trips last week on the Manistee. The first day was tough with only a few hits but the following days were good landing multiple salmon each day. We had guides on the Pere Marquette and White this morning and salmon were caught on both rivers. Casting Thundersticks is our main technique but fresh skein under a float also works well.
Lake Michigan- The Lake has started to give up good numbers of large salmon. The fishing has been great the last week when the wind is not blowing 100 mph. The fishing should continue to get even better through the end of Aug. as the salmon are staging to make their spawning run. Flasher/ fly combos and plugs have been the hot baits. 80-140 FOW look for them to be at the pier heads if we get cool water in close. Inland Lakes-The Largemouth bass fishing has continued to be good on most days.
