Dive Planet Highly Recommends Dive Charters Kaikoura. Set against the backdrop of the Kaikoura ranges, the undersea world of Kaikoura beholds a vast array of wonderful and unique marine creatures from the smallest invertebrate through to the giant sperm whales. The Fishing
Dive Kaikoura for Adventure: the first thing that comes to mind for those in the know is the stunning scenery of the Kaikoura Ranges. Then there are the clear waters that can be encountered here along with the multiple types of marine life that cruise this aquatic playground. Taking this into account with the Southern Hospitality, really makes Kaikoura a place that we should all explore at some time in our lives.

You see down here in Kaikoura the upwelling of the tidal currents and flow is due to having a sub-tropical convergence of warmer Northern and cooler Sub-Antartic currents. With this natural cycle brings a rich concentration of nutrients to the surface attracting Dolphins, Whales and seals in epic proportions. Other great sights of Kaikoura’s coastal dive locations include the impressive limestone reefs that harbour an assortment of plant and animal life.

Underwater Sights of Kaikoura: Kaikoura offers a feast of opportunities for the underwater photographer capturing images of the multiple bright coloured Sponges, Plant life, Nudibranchs, Sea urchins, Sea stars, Crayfish, Octopus and Lobsters just to give you a taste of the sights that you will see. Then you will have interaction with the Seals that playfully dart around in these Sub Antartic waters.

Dive Barney’s Rock: Barney’s Rock is named after legendary Whaler and local Scallywag, Barney O’Reily. The rock was originally used as a lookout point for spotting the Southern Right Whales, as they migrated along the Kaikoura Coast. Barney used to row out there daily with his spy glass looking for whales, then upon seeing one he would use smoke signals, to alert the whale boats at his shore based whaling station on the coast.
