The Boats - Dorado &Cavalier DORADO has been the top charter boat for marlin and tuna on Gran Canaria for the last 8 years. Dorado is captained by Antonio, Roberto and David Deniz, who between them boast over 30 years first class experience of big game sport fishing in the Atlantic waters around Gran Canaria. CAVALIER is captained by Abraham Medina and Hafid Qualiti. They are the younger of the two crews, but they too have proved, that they have the skills and experience.
Tag &Release In 1998-99 and 2005 Captain Roberto Deniz was proudly named Tag &Release Captain world-wide winner by the Billfish Foundation. We are official Billfish Foundation members and therefore operate a Tag &Release policy on board the Dorado and the Cavalier. All billfish caught for release (Atlantic Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Short and Long Bill Spearfish) on board our boats are tagged alongside the boat at which point we make an accurate estimate
The Fishing
TROLLING CHARTERS. During March and April you can fish for several species of Tuna including Blue Fin Tuna, Big Eye Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna and Albacore. They can be caught by trolling wth lures or by a chumming method. Multiple strikes are a common occurence. April sees the arrival of the billfish and fishing for Blue Marlin, Spearfish and White Marlin continues through to October. Throughout this period you can also fish forDorado (Mahi Mahi), Wahoo and Bonito.
The Blue Marlin caught range from 200 kilos (500lbs) upwards, some exceeding 500K/1,000lbs.
Many world records for tuna and spearfish are made by anglers fishing off Gran Canaria. An all line class record for spearfish is held by Paul Cashmore from England for a fish caught in the waters of Gran Canaria. JIGGING CHARTERS. Are you fit enough to meet the challenge of five or six hours of intense speed fishing? Jigging for hard-fighting Amberjack, Sama and Sierra (tuna) is all year round.
NIGHT FISHING CHARTERS. A new concept in fishing for Oilfish (Escola). Test your mettle against one of the hardest-fighting fish you will ever encounter, which have even been known to bite through metal jigs!
