Welcome Anglers, The Upper Kenai River, in Cooper Landing Alaska, has been my backyard for many wonderful fishing seasons. I have been a Kenai River Guide since 1989 and work with my exceptional fishing partner Stacy Corbin.

I can honestly say that I am one of the first dedicated fly-fishing drift boat guides to work the Kenai River. Guide Stacy Corbin caught his first fish in Arizona at the age of three. Upper Kenai River - Feature Trip UPPER KENAI RIVER in Alaska’s ’Kenai National Wildlife Refuge’. This is our ’FEATURE TRIP’ targeting Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and often Sockeye or Silver Salmon. Trips meet at a selected location in Cooper Landing. Drifts often include the KENAI CANYON (dependant on weather and fishing conditions), the most wild and scenic stretch of the river.
The Fishing
Kenai River Trout Fishing: The Kenai River supports some of the largest trout in Alaska, has a long season, and offers very consistent trout fishing through a broad range of conditions. If you do take that special trip to the Kvichak, Naknek, or other remote trophy trout river, you can still plan a day or two on the Kenai. The Kenai is easy to access from Anchorage by rental car, and there are plenty of accommodations to choose from. Many folks who fish around Alaska add the Kenai to the list.
Upper Kenai River Trout Fishing: Flowing from 20-mile long Kenai Lake to Cook Inlet, the Kenai River drops 430 feet on its 82-mile course to the ocean. The 17 miles of river from Kenai Lake and the little town of Cooper Landing, to 15-mile long Skilak Lake, is known as the ’Upper Kenai’. This section is where much of the fly-fishing takes place and is is entirely within the boundaries of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The general trout season opens June 11, and stays strong into October
Middle Kenai River Trout Fishing: The Kenai River flows from Skilak Lake for fifty miles before emptying into Cook Inlet. The first five miles are still within the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. It starts out wide and slow, providing excellent summer habitat for loons, nesting swans and juvenile salmon. As the river picks up speed, so does the fishing When the big trout bite is on here, this can provide a lifetime of big trout memories.
RAINBOW TROUT (Catch and Release Only) Kenai fish can be very heavy, with 28’ fish often exceeding 10lbs, and 34’ fish likely exceeding 20lbs. Larger fish are more frequent later in the season, but trophy sized rainbows are available all the time. The longest released by one of our guests was 36’. We love rainbows!
