Sinking fly line (6-7ips), clouser minnows, 7wt, and fishing from shore - anyone have any different tactics/flies for Atlantic Salmon in lakes? I just moved back to the Finger Lakes Region of New York State and some of the lakes that are close by hold some very nice Salmon. I'll be heading out tomorrow to try my luck.

I've only caught Atlantic Salmon in Australian waters as an introduced species, but we catch a lot of Australian Salmon in the salt and employ the same tactics as in the fresh, with the Atlantic Salmon. With a 7wt rod and a sinking line we use deceivers, while with a floating line we use clousers, the deceivers are often hit while we're merely letting the line sink through a surface school to greater depths, I reckon a sinking line might animate a deceiver more than a clouser. Anyway thats been our experience. Good luck.
