Marvin Reid: Meziadin and Northern BC
I would like to say that the fishing at Meziadin has been great over the past week, unfortunately, I am unable to do so. Fishing has been quiet, which is unusual for this time of year. I have not been out on the lake this past week myself, but speaking with anglers that have been out, things are rather slow. Dollies and some nice Rainbows are being caught, but not in the numbers one would normally expect for this time of year.
Locally, the Bell Irving River should start producing some excellent Steelhead fishing over the next couple of months, as well as the Bear River in Stewart should have some Coho entering that system as well. Just a reminder to our readers, access to Meziadin Lake will be severely curtailed after Sept. 22nd when the Park gate will be locked for the season. But there are still a few weeks to enjoy some local fishing, as well as some awesome scenery.
The commercial salmon fishery on the Meziadin is over and the targeted amount of Sockeye have been harvested. The other good news is that fresh Sockeye continue to enter the Meziadin system which means that chances are still good that bright fish can be caught for awhile yet.
Meziadin Lake Provincial Park will be closing on Sept. 22nd, and the gate will be locked. The boat launch that is located on the Meziadin River will also be inaccessible, as it is on private property, and the road leading to it will be gated as well.
I am now the operator of Meziadin Lake Provincial Park, as well as operating the Park which has a Store, and wireless internet to all sites. We also offer Travel Trailer Rentals to persons wishing to enjoy the outdoor experience. I do guided fishing trips on Meziadin and other local lakes along Highway 37.
Meziadin if not the best lake in Northwest BC for Dolly Varden and Bull Trout, up to 11 lbs, must be very close to the top of the list. I supply all rods, tackle and bait. Care of catch and cleaning.
Trips can be booked by the hour or by the day. I use a 19ft Harbercraft powered by a 75 Yamaha. We can be contacted at marvin_reid@telus.net , or 1 866 500 7302.
