Best Weather For The Year Thus Far Results In Some Massive Hauls.
Hi All
Well finally the weather did it for us. Pretty much 2 solid months of heavey rain and squally wind has made my life hell lately but this weekend it all stopped for a brief 48 hours and allowed us to get back out there for some of the best fishing and indeed the best weather that I have seen for quite a while. Saturday started off with a light sou-wester in the morning which, like it does in so many parts of QLD, put the fish right off the bite. With the light wind behind us we hammered out to the deepwater in record time and fished hard for very little result initially. As the day went on and we saw the already light SWerly drop out to nothing, the fishing seemed to switch back on like a light. Literally as soon as that bloody wind stopped we started catching fish. Its funny like that sometimes. Anyways the bulk of our catch for the day was caught in the afternoon and a good mixed bag of nannygai, sweetlip and a very nice 7kg red enperor hit the deck much to the delight of our customers. On Sunday we all met down at the boat again and headed east once agian only today there was no wind at all and the sea surface was like a mirror all the way out passed the islands. We had a little bit better idea where the fish were holding today and with no SW wind I was supremely confident that the day would be a success. We pulled up on the first mark and within 5 mins we had 4 nice nannygai of about 5kg each andn a 65cm red emperor flapping around on the deck, confirming my suspicion that the westerly wind was the cause of the slow fishing the day before. Several more drifts over the mark saw yet more big nannies with one 9kg horse of a fish coming up as well as some very nice grassys and trout. From the first spot to the last we caught fish - and the quality was like I havnt seen for a long while. Everything we caught was big and healthy. The grassys were all massive, we managed a couple of nice red throat and every time we put down a live bait we were rewarded with a whopping big trout with the biggest going just uder 6kgs. A truly awesome day out on the water with some absolutely supurb weather that somehow managed to get flatter and flatter as the weekend got on. Cheers to all who came out and Im sure we will see you again soon.
