Tuna caught on Spinning gear - Best Challenge in Fishing
Whoa, just hold on for that initial run. That’s the advice. And tighten the drag a bit. Then, reel when you can. Many times, the tuna take 200 yards on their initial run and then stop and come back at the boat! Talk about crazy. Never give up. Watch your line at all times. When you’re casting, PAY ATTENTION! We played take-away with shearwaters all fall because they love my TunaCandy lures. The good thing is that the action you put on the lures pulling them away from the birds is the same action that the tuna love. We had one collision between bird and tuna this year!!
Although I say it’s not a sport for rookies, we can bring you up to speed quickly, and it’s fun to watch, anyways. It’s amazing just hearing the drag and seeing people sweat! I love this type of fishing. Tuna fishing videos

The Fishing
We are based in Green Harbor, but we fish all of Cape Cod, Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth Bay, and Buzzards Bay. We target all species of fish, depending on season. We fish for ’groundfish’, which means cod, haddock, pollack, wolf fish, cusk, hake, halibut, and redfish. We would fish for sharks every day if we could and we catch blue sharks, makos, threshers, and porbeagles. We love it. We love fishing for bluefin tuna (casting, jigging, and trolling), striped bass, and bluefish.
Black Rose Fishing Charters specializes in small, private fishing charters. Our rates are very affordable and it is much easier to put together a smaller charter. We would fish for sharks every day if we could and we catch blue sharks, makos, threshers, and porbeagles. We love it. Because of the design of our boat, we can have 4 people casting at one time very easily. We love fishing for bluefin tuna (casting, jigging, and trolling), striped bass, and bluefish. We have a fast boat, full cabin, and comfortable ride. Seeing a shark come into the slick is exciting. Then feeling how powerful these great fish are is something you won’t forget.
Cod and haddock are our primary offshore bottom fish. Depending on sunrise, we like to leave between 4:30 and 6:30. Our ride out, typically from Green Harbor, takes anywhere from 3/4 hour to 1+ hours, depending on the weather conditions. We fish Massachusetts Bay, from Boston to Gloucester to Provincetown and all waters in between. In the springtime, we often hit both cod and haddock in shallow water on Stellwagen Bank. This means that we can catch nice fish in 80-130’ of water.

The Captains
I’m Captain Rich Antonino and I’ve been fishing for my whole life. I grew up spending my summers in Buzzards Bay, on Buttermilk Bay, fishing for stripers, blues, fluke, sea bass, flounder, and scup. I’ve been taking people fishing since I was 9. Capt. Matt Merrick has been working as mate on the Black Rose since we started fishing in 2004. He just graduated from college and will be getting his business degree from UMass Amherst this fall.
