Scott Reef (2) Sportfishing
MEMBER: admin >more from this member  >more related videos
CATEGORY: Sailfish Videos COUNTRY: AUSTRALIA

Its never boring fishing at Scott Reef, you just never know what’s going to turn up at the back of the boat and smash a lure. A few times we’ve had wahoo stalking the lures, actually drop back, only to come hurtling from the water from 10 metres behind and 4 metres above to smash their prey. If you match their blistering speed with their aeronautics, then not much is safe from this awsome predator, widely recognised as head of the ’Razor Gang’, with the spanish mackeral and the barracuda, being next in line.

Sailfish, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, Spanish Mackeral, Yellowfin Tuna, Giant Trevally, Coral Trout, Red Emperor and various sharks.

Rowley Shoals (2)
Multiple hookups are the norm at Rowley Shoals, whether Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, or a mass attack including Wahoo and Dogtooth Tuna. There are some big Dogtooth at Rowleys and along with their mates the Wahoo, they managed to decimate our tackle and lures. This was expected however, I had told all our group, that whatever the feelings they had previously had towards Wahoo, I bet they’d be screaming out #@%!#! Wahoo, quite a bit out here. Interesting note about alcohol consumption on board Oceaneer, I’v

Arnhem Land (11) Sportfishing
We called this place Calamity Cove because of the absolute carnage some seriously obstreperous Barramundi wreaked upon us. When we first gazed upon the structure and position of what we were later to dub Calamity Cove, I couldn’t help but say, this looks like the Town Hall for this neck of the woods, prophetic words to say the least. After the Mayor and the Town Council had finished with us we needed a community grant for lures.

Gamefishing Vanuatu
’Sea Mountain’ three hours from Vanuatu is one exciting place to fish, that is when the prevailing winds allow you to get there.

’The Record Catch’ Sportfishing
Paul has finally opened the vault and allowed this video to be shown to the world. It’s a classic joke which has served him well, and those who have fished with him, for nearly 30 years. On this day comedian and singer, Allan from the UK, who’s usually dishing out the jokes, was the brunt of one and he handled it exceptionally well. As far as we know there’s no other footage of this prank, so give it a go and don’t forget to video. The Rig: 40z Sinker on the bottom of the record and a snap swivel on

Kimberleys Day of Rest
Our day of rest included finding a great beach safe enough for a swim and having a game of beach footy. Fishing was not foremost on the agenda until someone dropped a new lure in the water to see how it swam and a nearby Spanish Mackeral thought it swam just fine and walloped it, then it was on, all over again.

Gamefishing for Marlin- Port Stephens Interclub Tournament
Every year at the end of February hundreds of gameboats from all over Australia converge on Port Stephens for the Annual Interclub Billfish Shootout. Held over two weekends, this can often result in the tagnrelease of well over two thousand Marlin among many other gamefish. The winning boats often tagnrelease up to 18 Marlin a day. Enormous baitschools of slimey mackeral, yellowtail and cowan young take up residence at Port Stephens during the warmer months, ensuring the neverending presence of blue, black

Scott Reef (12) Sportfishing
Giant Trevally are a solid, heavily muscled fish that can grow upwards of 90kg in these waters. They have immense power and are one of the most dogged fighters in the ocean. They are found all around these reef systems with the larger ones keeping company with the biggest of the reef sharks, a ploy they use in the ambushing of prey. We were lucky enough to get a few Giant Trevally in the 30kg-40kg range, but boy do they make you work on light gear!

Kimberleys Secret Spot (2) Sportfishing
If you managed to not get bitten off and the fish you were fighting was not bitten off or in half, then you were some hope of getting the fish to the boat. There were several instances when a fish had taken a lure, only to be bitten in half by another and then during retrieval, swallowed by a bigger fish and doggedly edged towards the boat only to be walloped by something even bigger and nastier. This was the food chain at its most primal and majestic, what a privelege it is to partake in what’s been unto

Kakadu in the Wet (2)
Though the monsoon rains had momentarily ceased, there was a hell of a lot of water on the move, it was gushing off the floodplains and down the rivers a rate of knots. Hence quite often we’d have to wait out a tidal surge or drive through one, this led to the development of roof-rack fishing, well that’s what we called it. But crazy Tarpon were the only fish that took our lures. It looks pretty funny though when your gazing at the other end of the road and a school of about 50 Tarpon go jumping merrily

Fish For The Future
Brag N Release is dedicated to showcasing the fishing experience from a catch and release perspective. Naturally as fishermen we partake of the ocean’s bounty, which we do sparingly, but the fish that really make our day, are the ones that get to swim away. In the age of ’digital imaging’ the trophy can be alive and still swimming, as is the future of fishing, if its allowed to be. THE BEST PART OF FISHING......IS THE ’ING’
