Striped Marlin
The Fishing
Location: San Cristobal Island, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. Temperatures: December – May 85-95 F, June- November 82 – 90 F. Season: Marlin are found year round. Calmest waters are Dec – June. Fish tend to peak March – August. Flight times: Guayaquil to San Cristobal 1 hour and 40 minutes approx. What to wear: Long sleeve shirts and pants against the hot sun, cool clothing for heat. Salinas. Santa Elena Peninsula, Ecuador. With dozens of past world records in almost every category in conventional and fly, Salinas has made history a true offshore fishery. Large migrations of blue, black and striped marlin as well as yellowfin and big eye tuna migrate the continental shelf in search of food. Salinas could be thought of a feeding highway for big fish. The same black marlin that swam off of Cabo Blanco, Peru had to migrate through Salinas
While the high numbers of fish that migrated in Salinas 20 years ago may not be as prevalent today, it still offers the opportunity of world class sport fishing when it turns on. The town has night life, restaurants and a shopping center nearby. Less than a 2 hour drive from the port city of Guayaquil makes getting to Salinas very easy. Guayaquil is less than 4 hours by plane from Miami.
Tintoreras. Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes aprox. Boat ride, in this place you can see white tip sharks also named “Tintoreras”, turtles, blue footed booby, pelicans, frigates, penguins. Visit the colony of marine iguanas and young see lions. You will have the option to snorkel. Well of Tears, Tortoise Center. Time: 2 hours aprox. Walk the trails of the Galapagos National Park at the tortoise rearing center and see endemic plants, lizards, birds and the Orchilla view.
