Chinook Salmon, Brown Trout, Steelhead, Coho Salmon
The Fishing
Chinook Salmon, commonly referred to as King Salmon, make up the bulk of our catch most of the season. We target them for the entire month of May out of Wilson, then we move the boat to Oak Orchard to chase them for the remainder of the season. They are an exciting gamefish and are easily the strongest fighters in the lake. Readily caught with trolling tecniques, Kings average about 20lbs. Kings over 30lbs.are caught each year, sheer power alone making them one of the most sought after fish
The Brown Trout is our primary focus in the early part of the season. Browns are most often caught in the springtime (April-June), but can be caught anytime of the season. Browns are often caught in shallower water and are great fighters. You will be proud to have your picuture taken with one of these bronze beauties. Average sizes range from 4-6lbs., but we often boat 10-15lb. fish with an occasional monster coming in at nearly 20lbs.
Steelhead are a beautiful fish. They are well known as escape artists. Known for high flying jumps with lots of twists and backflips, steelhead are one of our favorite fish to catch. Steelhead average 5-7lbs., however fish in the 10-15lb. range get caught frequently. They are very silver in appearance, and typically have a dark stripe down their back....hence the name ’Steelhead’. My personal favorite!!
Coho salmon are the King’s little cousin. They look a lot like kings, but fight quite differently. They’re smaller on average than kings, but they fight more like a steelhead. They often feed in schools, so when we find one, we often find a lot more. Coho can be caught at all water depths and any time of the season, but we most often catch them in early spring in shallower waters, and again in the fall while staging prior to their spawning run. They average 5-7lbs. with larger fish
Wow! That’s a BIG fish!
Fishing isn’t just something we do. It’s who we are. We live for those moments that stick with you for a lifetime. No matter if it’s your first-ever fish, or a new personal-best trophy you’re after, we can take you there. Whether the King of a lifetime, or a whopper of a Brown, we have the knowledge, tackle, and experience for that trophy. We’ll be fishing the famous Niagara Bar out of the port of Wilson in the month of May, then to Oak Orchard
Captain Bill Ruth
I’m your Captain, Bill Ruth. I’ve been fishing the waters of Lake Ontario for over 25 years and I hold a 25 ton USCG Master Captain’s license. I specialize in trolling for trophy-sized trout and salmon. We’re always trying new things in an effort to catch more fish; charter us for a fishing trip for a day or two and you’ll most likely see a lure or technique you’ve not seen before. We’re very excited about our move to the West end of the Lake.
Point Breeze - Oak Orchard
We’ve recently decided to move our operation to the fish-rich waters of Point Breeze (Oak Orchard). We know that it’s all about the fishing for you and we’re committed to putting as many fish in the boat for you as we possibly can. To that end, we’ll be fishing out of what we consider to be the most consistent port on the entire lake. One trip to the Oak and you’ll be hooked. We’re looking forward to seeing you on the West end in 2009
