The Fishing
We have both blue and black marlin here in Costa Rica along with the odd stripped marlin. A Blue marlin is a full attack mode at all times. I have seen them many times come in and light up like some neon lights. Once hooked up they will attack the boat on full charge,I have on video one in particular that charged the boat 3 times,he would surface 50-100’ away and then full speed head for the boat,as we would roar out of his way he would fly past the transom.
On the other hand, a black marlin fights you with his power and weight. He will pull on you till you don’t think you can do it any more an for sure not another one the same day. We catch them here in COSTA RICA as large as 1000lbs. I have seen captain Bobby McGuinness raise as many as 9 to the boat in a single day and our clients successfully land 4 of them,they were everywhere. If a big blue or black is what you are after then COSTA RICA is your place.
Costa Rica waters are also filled with Dorado 12 month’s out of the year,it is a rare day on the water here not to see a 3-4 Dorado chasing around in your lures. The month’s of November,December,January, February, are the best as the rainy season has just ended and all of the river’s have washed out log’s and debris down and out to sea. As you find them floating on the surface off-shore there will be concentration’s of bait fish of all size’s along with Dorado
Inn-shore fishing in COSTA RICA is consistent year round. Roosterfish, cubera snappers are the main attraction’s but the waters along the beaches and river mouth’s add to the menu. A dozen other species such as dog tooth snapper, grouper, amber jack’s, bluefin trevally, sharks, barracuda and many more all cruise these water’s.

Offshore Fly Fishing in Costa Rica
Chasing Billfish offshore with a fly rod has got be one of the most thrilling experiences any fishermen could ever encounter. Imagine a 100+ pound Sailfish or even a 300-400+ Blue Marlin light up like neon blue lights and at the transom as a back yard bull dog with nothing to eat for a week or two. Sailfish are caught 6-15 times on a normal day and twice that on a good day. Quite often they come into the teasers in pairs or more.
